Commuting and Traffic

Over the past 10 years, commuting in Cedar Park has changed a lot.

A decade ago, the majority of residents followed a pretty traditional pattern: drive south into Travis County and Austin during rush hour, five days a week. Long, predictable commutes were just part of life. Only 24% of residents worked in Cedar Park.

Today, that picture looks very different. Cedar Park has seen major population growth in the last decade, bringing more jobs, more local destinations, and more people working closer to home. At the same time, the rise of remote and hybrid work has changed when and where people commute.

What we see now:

- Less “9-to-5” traffic, more spread throughout the day

- More people working from home at least part of the week

- Continued reliance on cars, but with growing interest in trails, biking, and local trips

- Almost half of residents work in Cedar Park and only 31% drive south into Travis County and Austin during rush hour, five days a week.

Cedar Park is no longer just a bedroom community. It’s becoming a place where people live, work, and spend their time locally.

As we plan for the future, we need to think about new ways of meeting our transportation needs: roads, remote work trends, and better local connectivity.
